Tortured maid undergoes cosmetic surgery

An Ethiopian maid who was allegedly tortured and burnt by a Morrocan woman has undergone cosmetic surgery at Al Qasimi Hospital.



The 23-year-old had many burns on her body when she was brought to the hospital, where she told staff that she was working as a housemaid with an Arab family and the woman frequently tortured and burnt her by pouring hot oil on her body.

Dr Faisal Suliman, head of plastic surgery at the hospital who conducted the surgery, said the woman underwent surgery on Tuesday during which parts of her skin were taken from her leg and placed on her back, so that cells would be renewed .

Suliman said that when the woman came to hospital she had burns on her forehead, back and legs, which were of first and second degree nature. He said some of them were very deep while others were just on the skin surface.

The woman was given the necessary treatment and the hospital would follow up and would take the necessary action. The Sharjah Police were informed about the case.
